| took this in January or February. it's a movie poster (The Hurt Locker) in the window of the movie rental place. at the time i took the photograph i hadn't seen the movie and was more thinking about the pairing of our shopping carts (a symbol for North American materialism) and the wars being fought in places where people have less access to goods and services than we do. i was also thinking about how much i take the lack of soldiers in our streets for granted. all serious thoughts for a cold winter day. since taking this i watched The Hurt Locker and enjoyed it. tomorrow it's up for an Academy Award and i'll help it out with my good wishes for it. i'll watch the red carpet and Academy Awards of course - it's an annual guilty pleasure of mine - and i'll think about the push and pull of fantasy and affluence and entertainment. i'll think too though about people who don't have the opportunities i do. for those interested in the image details this is not a double exposure but another reflections shot. black and white 120mm film, Shanghai GP3, 100 iso - self developed. |
